Of Dreams

I wanted to fly with you
To that darkness all around
And reach high above the sky
With the dreams
That have no bounds
Just as you oft seemed to know.

But now you are no more--
Scattered funeral ashes across the land,
Riding the winds of time and ages
To the ground,
To the Earth,
To the history that should not have been.

Down here, we still dream,
We still hold to what we knew;
There are others which will follow,
And we will carry on;
But without you,
This road seems far too long.

You have left a space
Far too large for us to fill.

But for you
We must keep the dream alive,
Unlike the fire in the sky,
We mustn't let it die,
For now it's only there
Where with you I can fly.
