CNOC2 Meeting, Germany - May 2007

Departure

Due to the curvature of the earth, our departure path led us over Scotland (here), Greenland, and past Iceland. (I wasn't on the right side of the plane to view Iceland, unfortunately.)

Took me a while to realize that the ocean was frozen in places and that those little white floaty things were icebergs, not waves. Then came the large sheets of icebergs.

Wish I knew just how big each one of those was.

And then, surrounded by sheets of ice...was Greenland.

Beautiful.

Frozen cove.

A glacier running off the land and calving into the sea.

Eventually, the mountains gave way to a neverending sheet of white that did not end until we passed over the western shore of Greenland.
